Tea party...

Today we had a fun tea party! We enjoyed conversation (at least they all did...my Portuguese is nonexistant), a great time decorating cupcakes and planning for the halloween party. This opportunity was special because of the friendships that are being built and developed. It was also very special because as they left, they were each given a gift that included a Bible in Portuguese. Be praying that they take the time to start reading from the Bible and also that they will feel free to ask Hannah questions about the Bible in the following days and months.
Enjoy some pictures from the party!

Cafè...

When we got to Lisbon, we began to quickly enjoy the coffee that they serve here. There are cafes all over the place and it has been fun trying all the different brands. Each cafe holds about the same amount of caffeine as 3-4 cups of coffee in the states. There is legend here of someone drinking 12 cafes in one day...so Doug took this as a challenge to beat while he was here.
The beginning of the challenge started with a Cafè Bom Bom:

While we have been in Portugal, we have been enjoying the yummy foods everywhere we go! My favorite is the different soups that are offered at every little place we have gone.
I made some last night so I could continue to enjoy it back in the states!

Time for Tea...

Usually on this blog, I have been waiting for pictures to post updates but for this special day I felt you all needed to be updated beforehand so that you can be praying. We have been preparing for a special tea party with some of the ladies that Hannah has met in her time here in Lisbon. At the party, we will be enjoying tea, snacks and having fun decorating cupcakes. We will also be taking this time to give each lady a gift of a Bible. Hannah has taken the time to mark out verses in each Bible and we have been making bookmarks for each verse so they can find each one easily.
Be praying for the Bibles to reach each of these families in special ways, we know that God's word is full of power and just getting it into the hands of these few women is a great opportunity for the spread of the gospel.

Relationships...

We are having a great time in Portugal. We are enjoying the culture, foods, people and many impressive structures. One of the wonderful things about the culture here is the importance they place on their children and birthday parties! Our niece, Bria had her birthday earlier this month but shared her party with her sweet friend Bea after we arrived. The relationships that our family shares with these families is special and as they continue to develop these friendships will become a primary tool in bringing the gospel to Lisboa.

Fun last day in India...

On our last day in India we flew into Hyderabad and did some shopping...
Here is Doug with a statue...we did not know exactly what the statues were supposed to be doing but thought they looked pretty realistic!

Shopping...

The closest Doug got to touching an India elephant in India...

Coffee and Gloria Jeans in Hyderabad...yum!

On our way to Portugal, we got some good shots of the ground from above...

Last day in Visag...

On our last day in Visag, we were able to go to a school in a very poor area of the city. There were lots of kids and we enjoyed telling a Bible story, playing games and spending a little time with them.
Getting temporary tattoos...

Some of the children and teachers as they listen to Doug tell the Bible story...

Each one got a piece of candy on their way out...

We enjoyed our time with the kids and left wishing we could have had more time with them! Be praying for these children and teachers, we were with them for a couple hours but God is still at work among them.

Portugal...

Greetings from Portugal! We made it to Lisbon safe and sound last night! Our flights went well and our luggage all arrived here right away. Although we were very tired after a long 19 hours of travel, we enjoyed a nice dinner with the Bustrums and then were able to go enjoy a birthday party at one of their friends house. It is fun and exciting to be immersed into a completely new culture than the one we have been in the last two weeks. We are already enjoying new foods, a completely different language and the company of family we haven't seen in a few years.
We will continue to post from our last few days in India once we get pictures on the computer but we wanted to let everyone know that we are here in Lisbon! Be praying for relationships here that they will continue to be strengthened and that God will use those friendships to bring about opportunities to share the gospel.

Ice Age Ice Cream...

This evening, we all decided to try out the new ice cream shop in town called Ice Age. It is a cool place all decorated with the Ice Age theme. They are attempting to duplicate the idea of Marble Sl*b and Maggi* Moos Ice Cream places...attempting. It all ended up great but ordering was all another Indian experience. The ice cream in the display was all completely melted, we are guessing there had been a power issue...and communication was complicated. But all in all the experience was great...and we all enjoyed some ice cream and air conditioning!

An attempt at a picture of everyone...(this really is a good display of how we all felt while we were there)

Just what he is best at...

It is interesting to see people in different cultures. Some handle cultural differences with grace, other not as much. It has been great to see Doug in a culture completely different than our own. He has handled the difference with a great deal of grace and excitement.
One of the things he had to embrace at camp one day was eating with his hands...

One day in Araku, he was asked to complete a roof on the house we were staying at...here is Doug at work, doing his usual job...just in India instead of Washington state!

This little piggy went to market...

While in Araku, one day began with rain. The rain didn't stop all day...so we took the opportunity to get some shopping done, Araku style. Market day was under water, but we went anyway!

This little piggy stayed home...because Kara is used to the hotter and more humid weather in Vizag, she felt the cooler weather was COLD! We enjoyed it though!
